Beer Snob

Somewhere along the way Jen started calling me a beer snob.  Two things lead to this distinction. My
Wednesday night ride ending at
Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, PA and Jen joining a beer
club at her work. The first is the most influential for me. Simply put I love Victory's beers. The second
gives me a space to exercise my opionions and comparison's to Victory.

I'm no expert at this. I simply drink and have opinions. Because we have access (via the club) to drink
so many different kinds, we thought it would be good to put together this little page to keep track of things
(such as opinions and what we've actually tried).

For real opionions and analysis of beers I would recommend Beer Advocate.com. It's an excellent source for
learning about beers.

My analysis is pretty simple and straight foward. I have a scale of 0 - 3. If I'm willing to buy a case, the beer gets 3
bottles. If I'm willing to buy a six pack of it, the beer gets 2 bottles. If I don't care for it but would drink one, the beer
gets 1 bottle. If I'd rather drink muddy water, the beer gets no bottles.

Name Brewery Location Style % Alcohol Comments Rating
Leffe Blonde Abbaye de Leffe S.A. Dinant, Belgium Belgian Pale Ale 6.6% ABV It's a belgian.
Allagash White Allagash Brewing Company Portland, Maine Witbier 5.5% ABV A very delicious witbier.
Liberty Ale Anchor Brewing San Francisco, Ca American IPA 5.9% ABV Quoted from the website "is brewed strictly according to traditional brewing methods...", which is probably why it doesn't taste like an IPA to me and why I didn't like it.
Boont ESB Anderson Valley Brewing Company Boonville, CA Extra Special/Strong Bitter 6.8% ABV Not bad. It's bitter, so of course I'm going to like it.
Broad Street Barley Wine Appalachian Brewing Company Harrisburg, PA American Barley Wine 8.7% ABV Very Tastey barley wine and not too strong.
Purist Pale Ale Appalachian Brewing Company Harrisburg, PA American Pale Ale (APA) 4.8% ABV Good throwback beer for the summer with some taste
Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale Atlantic Brewing Company Bar Harbor, Maine Fruit/Vegetable Beer 5.2% ABV Had a few sips so far. Need to have more for a better review.
The Maharaja Imperial India Pale Ale Avery Brewing Co. Boulder, CO American Double IPA 9.7% ABV Very rich flavor, though not one I'm completely fond of. I want to say it's too malty for me, but not sure that's correct. Mine was bottled in 2005. Being it's now 2008, it had some age.
Joe's Premium American Pilsner Avery Brewing Co. Boulder, CO Premium American Pilsner 4.7% ABV Very tasty pilsner. Clean and fresh with no after-taste like a PBR or High Life
White Rascal Avery Brewing Co. Boulder, CO Belgian Wheat 5.6% ABV I had forgotten how much I like a good wheat beer. This one is really tasty. Clean and crisp.

Birra Moretti Birra Moretti Udine, Italy Euro Pale Lager 4.6% ABV Another Italian. Decent throw back beer I guess.
Peroni Nastro Azzurro Birra Peroni Industriale S.p.A. Italy American Macro Lager   Not all that good. It wouldn't even qualify as a throw back beer.
Hoptical Illusion Blue Point Brewing Company Patchogue, NY American IPA 6.2% ABV It's hoppy, but I'd probably prefer a Sierra Nevada
Boddingtons Pub Ale Boddingtons United Kingdom (England) English Pale Ale 4.7% ABV Nothing special
Summer Ale Boston Beer Company (Sam Adams) Boston, MA American Pale Wheat Ale 5.2% ABV Not bad. A good easy drinking summer beer. I was surprised to see it was a wheat beer. Certainly didn't taste like it.
Boston Lager Boston Beer Company (Sam Adams) Boston, MA Vienna Lager 4.75% ABV I must be getting soft. I'd actually drink more of this as a throwback beer. Found myself in a beerless situation and split a case of this with someone. At first I hated it, but later realized I could drink it like water and not hate it. Not a whole lot of taste, but doesn't taste like nothing.
Cold Hop British-Style Ale Boulder Beer Boulder, CO English India Pale Ale (IPA) 6.5% ABV Less flavor then the Mojo. More a quick drinking IPA
Mojo IPA Boulder Beer Boulder, CO American IPA 7.0% ABV It's an IPA, but just didn't have enough flavor for me. Maybe a fresher batch would have been better?
Hazed & Infused Boulder Beer Boulder, CO American Pale Ale (APA) 4.85% ABV It's a pale ale, so yeah I like it.

Shelter Pale Ale Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Milton, De American Pale Ale (APA) 5.0% ABV It was ok, but nothing like the Yard's Philadelphia Pale Ale.
Burton Baton Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Milton, De American Double / Imperial IPA 10.0% ABV I've since come to realize I'm not a huge fan of Imperial IPAs. Sure I could review it for the nuances of this particular beer/style, but I'm really not a fan nor have the time.

Commodore Perry Great Lakes Brewing Co. Cleveland, OH English IPA 7.5% ABV Maybe it was because I had a Port Brewing Mongo before I had this, or maybe it just sucked?
