Millers Point @ French Creek
March 2, 2008

We've been hiking the dogs every weekend since early December. In the beginning we kept the hikes short and close to home as Gretchen was still very young. As she's grown, so have the hikes from one hike a weekend to two hikes a weekend. From two short hikes, we've worked our way up to two longer hikes.

With all these hikes, we've been to quite a few places - Springton Manor, Marsh Creek, Hibernia and now French Creek. Unfortunately I haven't made a great effort to document the hikes too well. Takes yesterdays hike. We did a longer loop at Marsh Creek then we'd done before and discovered some really cool farm ruins. The hike was perfect for pictures, but I wasn't thinking.

Today I was smart, or at least smarter. We headed off to Miller's Point at French Creek (different link then before and cooler) and took the camera. One of the focal points of this trail is Millers Point, a wooded rock outcropping with semi clear views to the north. I wanted to see how Gretchen would do in the rocks.

She did fine of course. CJ knows rocks and started up them first. As soon as she realized where he was going, she took off in front of him. She was up and over like a goat.

Jen doesn't like climbing rocks as much, so she took her time.

The dogs on the other hand were all over them. Granted they aren't the biggest and there's some paths in between, but that didn't keep from climbing up and exploring all the possibilities.

And I mean all the possibilities.

The only distraction from running all over the rocks were some orange peels Gretchen thought might be tasty. They weren't.

Down off the rocks and back down the trail. From this point, the trail drops significantly into a valley (similar to the one viewed). Gretchen loves to run down hill and we love watching her. It's hard to explain, but she definitely has a particular style for descending.

At the bottom and through the creek. Creeks mostly freak her out, but this one went well. her.

A tired dog is a good dog.
