London, England
June 28 - 29, 2008

After a week of stressful work and jet lag in Farnborough, UK, Sejin and I made our way to London on Saturday.

There were all kinds of recommendations from people in the office as to where we should spend our weekend, most of which did not include London. I got the impression most "English" didn't like London . Didn't really matter to us, it still seemed like the logical place to go.

Because decent public transit actually exists in the U.K., we went online and started checking schedules.

With just a short walk from our hotel, we were at the station buying our travelcards. These travelcards guaranteed us to and from London and all the underground and public bus transportation we could stand.

One transfer and about an hours worth of travel we arrived in London via Waterloo station. It was pretty overwhelming at first. You walk down the platforms towards this giant hallway that is the terminal. From there all of London is yours for the taking, but which way do you go?

After a little fumbling, discrete map purchasing and reading, we made our way to the tube.

It literally is a tube. Again intimidating at first, but we soon got the hang of it .

Ah ha! London!

Luckily Sejin didn't really know much about London, so it was easy to convince him to go where Londoners go and not just the tourist traps.

This was Portobello Market on what I would call the north west side of London. Basically it was a street that stretched on and on with all kinds of vendors.

Quickly we learned we weren't in the U.K. anymore as nobody walked on the traditional left side of the sidewalk. There were basically people of all types everywhere.

Some cool buildings along Portobello market. You'd hardly believe you were in dreary England with shots like these.

After Portebello, we jumped back on the tube and headed to the north east corner of the city for Camden Market. Camden reminded me a lot of South St. in Philly. It was just a lot of shops and a lot of people hanging out.

Though I have to warn you, the shops in this area are mostly alternative. If you're looking for Ralph Lauren or something don't bother going to Camden. If you're looking for Dr. Martins and something in latex, this is the place!

There happened to be this cool lock in Camden with this cool skinny boat going through it while we were there.

The captain made his first mate jump off and manage the gates. Not sure what her responsibilities were on the boat, as she's only wearing a bra under that vest that I think belongs to the captain

So the front gates were opened and the back gates closed (reverse order of course) and the boat dropped.

Level and ready to roll.
