There were 4 or 5 different routes we could have taken depending on the weather and trail
conditions.  Jay basically wanted to know where the nearest Denny's was.

All of our trips usually have a story of some great adventure requiring superhuman skill and/or really bad
luck. This wasn't the story for this trip. Though crawling across this log was not nearly as easy as Jay
makes it look.

One of those beautiful shots you just have to take. You can just make out the snow flurries on the left.

This was actually the second night at the lean-to.  The first night everything was covered in ice and snow.
The second night it was just wet.

This was after the first night.  The low was something like 26 degrees.  It wasn't easy getting out of our
mummy bag infernos.

The higher we went the more snow we hiked through. It was 4 miles to the summit of Marcy from the
lean-to.  This was about half way.

We could see the summit and people coming down, so we knew it was climable.

Here you can see the transition from the non-snowy trees to the snow covered everything.

So this was the ascent above tree line.  It was mostly ice with very little traction. We weren't the only
ones without crampons, but we were the only ones with full packs.

Here's the Summit.  In the distance is Mt. Algonquin.  Behind the guy with the clear jacket is the summit
plack. There were actually 5 dogs at the summit.

The picture really doesn't do the wind justice.  We were figuring the gusts were hitting around 70mph.  It
wasn't enough to knock you over, but we were stumbling and the dog obviously didn't like it.
