Deck Rails
Summer, 2008

And now the spindles go up. I made spacers to hopefully insure they're evenly spaced.

This is a very repetative process .

One done .

And many many more to do.

  Ah. Looks sharp!

Here's my solution to the wiggly posts. I had all these 2"x4" pieces left over from the railings, so I started tacking them in between the rim joist and the next jois back. They shored things up pretty well.

Before I could continue with the railing, I had to do some deck alterations. The deck stretched all the way to under the bedroom window. We found this to be a security issue for two reasons. The first was access to the bedroom and the second was access from the bedroom in case a kid (i.e. hellian teenager) ever slept there. The solution of course was to just square it off.

With the rip of the circular saw it was gone

It took a little more then that, but it squared off nicely. I know, I know. Most people want bigger decks, but this little sliver wasn't really providing us much. Now you can see where it used to go under the bedroom window.

It was the first of November when I got back to this. The post at the house has/had issues with stability. Took a while to get it acceptable. Once it was up, I realized I had some issues with levelness. As the deck moves away from the house, it drops off. Regardless it was important the railing feel and appear level. Using one of my extra 2"x4"s I spanned the gap and did just that.
