Taking a GPS reading of site is required in case we get lost and need to get back. GPS coordinates:

But the most important chore is water. In winter there are three sources of water snow, ice and water.
Snow takes forever to boil and ice is only slightly better. The ideal is water if you can find it. Luckily our
lean-to was located by a stream, though covered in snow and ice.

So I dug a hole 3 - 4ft deep to get to the ice, then began chopping a hole in the ice to get to the water.

Here's an action shot of me chopping away at the ice. The ice was about 6 inches thick. With the hole
made, we could now dip our pots in the water to fill and boil.

Sunday March 6th, Jeff and I headed out to climb Mt. Colden. It's the 11th tallest peak in the Adirondacks
at 4,714 ft. I'm pretty sure the peak you see in the background of this picture is Mt. Colden. The lean-to is
one of the other lean-tos in the area we were staying in.

On the way up you pass by Lake Arnold.  Here the weather started to get nasty. The sun went away. It
got windy and began snowing heavily. GPS coordinates: N44*07.902 W73*56.631 3803ft.

This is me continuing the hike to the top of Mt. Colden.

Here's Jeff weathering the storm.

At this point we decided to stop and head back.  There was a col (valley) and two more climbs to get to
the top.  I was feeling sick and the weather wasn't improving. GPS coordinates:
N44*07.806 W73*57.065 4313ft.
